Pictou
Use the drop-down menu below to explore Pictou.
Often referred to as the ‘Birthplace of New Scotland’, Pictou, in Nova Scotia, lies on the magnificent Northumberland Shore in Canada and is the place where the first group of Scottish settlers made their home in 1773. With its spectacular greenery, beautiful reflective waters and fun-filled historic waterfront, the town makes a wonderful holiday destination offering both natural and heritage attractions.
The natural harbour where the Scottish once landed is now called the Hector Heritage Quay, and is home to a replica of the original ship which once brought the settlers here.
Visitors can hear about how the ships of that time were made, see displays about the immigrants' stories, and see fascinating memorabilia. Follow this up by relaxing at one of the harbour’s lovely restaurants. A boardwalk from the marina links to the enthralling Trans-Canada Trail.
