Living the life in Barbados...The perfect hotel or villa holiday for you

Posted in Barbados, Caribbean by Laura Percival on 15th Jul 2019

Upon arrival in Barbados we were greeted by our wonderful resort representatives, who look after our clients throughout their stay in Barbados. We were escorted through the fast track immigration queue, collected our luggage and through to our transfer vehicle - a great start to our trip!

Our first two nights were spent at the wonderful Hemingway House, a 4-bedroom beachfront villa on Mullins beach, which is perfect for a large family or a group of friends looking for a fabulous location. Upon arrival, the Villa Manager Diane greeted us along with the housekeeper and cook, who had prepared a refreshing drink, before taking us on a tour of the villa.  Bridget, our cook, had also prepared a light meal of chicken salad followed by mango and banana with ice cream - not forgetting our first taste of Barbados with a lovely rum sauce, which we ate under the Gazebo around a huge Sandstone table. The perfect night to an unforgettable trip.

The following morning we awoke to discover that Bridget had prepared a fabulous breakfast that included delicious pumpkin fritters, setting us up for our busy day of villa inspections.

One of our favourite villas was Westhaven, a 4-bedroom beachfront villa on Gibbs beach that is the essence of beach chic and very comfortable. We also visited Royal Westmoreland to see the array of villas dotted around the Golf Course ranging from 2 to 6-bedroom villas. These are perfect for anyone seeking the independence of a villa but who also appreciate the benefits of the resort’s facilities, including a restaurant, central pool area and of course, an excellent golf course. Mullins Beach facility is also included if you stay on Royal Westmoreland with beach loungers, parasols, towels and waiter service on the beach.  It was also great to see some of the locals also enjoying their afternoon ‘cookouts’ where all the families get together.

That evening was spent at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion hotel enjoying the manager’s cocktail party, followed by buffet dinner at T’boras. Here we dined with the hotel’s new General Manager, Jean Christophe, who is an excellent addition to the Fairmont team.  With regards to the refurbished rooms, you couldn’t ask for more with the panoramic view of the ocean and gorgeous comfortable day beds.  Ideal for both couples and families, as most rooms inter-connect.

The following morning, we arrived at Grendon House for our next two nights. A 5-bedroom villa on the Sandy Lane Estate which features a fantastic outdoor sitting /pool area as well as a huge Jacuzzi, where we enjoyed Rum Punch prepared by our housekeeper after another busy day.  Whilst enjoying our surroundings our cook was rustling up a typical Bajan 3 course meal with the best pumpkin and coconut soup I have ever tasted. After dinner, which could have been served at one of many dining areas, we retired to the games room for a bit of (non-competitive) table tennis! Grendon House also has the additional benefit of a cabana at Sandy Lane beach which gives access to the property owners facilities including a bar, a comfortable sitting area and beach loungers. Ask your housekeeper to prepare a packed lunch and enjoy the ocean!

Today we visited Little Good Harbor House, a beautiful 3-bedroom beachfront cottage located in Speightstown, perfect for couples and families. We also visited Point of View on the Sandy Lane Estate, which is a fantastic 5-bedroom home, it has large communal living areas with lots of outdoor space. This is a great villa for large families and groups and absolutely perfect for a wedding party!

The next morning, we were up and out to explore more villas, we visited Emerald Beach which is a selection of six luxury three-bedroom beachfront villas with a shared pool located on Gibbs Beach. These are a great choice as they are beachfront and in a fantastic location.

That evening we dressed up and headed over to the prestigious Sandy Lane hotel where we enjoyed the wonderful Sandy Lane Asian Buffet, there was so much to choose from, so we opted to try a little of everything! Not only did they have the buffet, but there was also a BBQ where we were encouraged to try even more culinary delights as well as trying to make room for dessert – yes we had this too.  Sandy Lane still oozes luxury in every way.  Each and every staff member engages with you from the moment you walk through the fabulous foyer, through to the Monkey Bar for cocktails, down for dinner at Bajan Blue until the moment you leave – with a bag of Sandy Lane M & M’s!!  The rooms still rival any hotel on the island and the penthouse is just WOW!  Everyone deserves a treat even just for one night!

The following day was spent refreshing our knowledge of the Elegant hotel group.

Crystal Cove is a lovely Caribbean chattel house style hotel with a friendly relaxed atmosphere - I would recommend this to couples and families looking for a good value all-inclusive resort. Treasure Beach has had a full refurbishment in recent years and is a boutique all-suite hotel, exclusively for adults, seeking a welcoming hotel with a great atmosphere. You can experience a lovely a la carte breakfast and one complimentary hour of daily sundowners in the evening and the good-sized one-bedroom suites accommodate 3 adults.  I holidayed here last December with my girlfriends and loved it! The House recently renovated their breakfast area and outdoor space, improving the overall ambience of the resort.  An adults-only hotel, it has a great vibe. We were lucky enough to experience the famous ‘Sunday Brunch' at Colony Club which we would highly recommend, they had so much choice on the buffet and there really is a nice atmosphere throughout the resort.

Other hotels we visited included The Sandpiper – what a great boutique hotel, the food is fantastic the hotel is warm, and the staff are extremely friendly who love to engage with you.  Couldn’t stop smiling whilst having lunch here.  On my list to return!

Later that afternoon we checked into our home for the next 2 nights Howzat!, a 6 bedroom villa on Royal Westmoreland. This is a modern homely villa with a great pool and views over the golf course. Great for families and couples.

Our evening was spent at Cobblers Cove, a charming boutique Relais & Chateaux property close to Speightstown. If you like great food this is the place to go – but no more than one Cobblers Cooler cocktail – take my word for it!

Another morning viewing luxury villas. We went to see Footprints House a beautiful 5-bedroom beachfront villa, very contemporary this is the perfect choice for someone looking for something more modern. If you have a larger group you could also rent Footprints Cottage which is located across the road and would give you an additional 3 bedrooms.

Finally, we headed over to the South coast for our last night’s stay at the all-inclusive Sea Breeze Beach House, we loved this hotel there are so many different areas for families and adults, they have a traditional rum shack and offer a variety and fine dining. Very friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

Whatever your preference, there is undoubtedly a hotel or villa in Barbados for you and your family and we will guide you through the process to find your perfect Barbados holiday.
