Discovering Mauritius with Beachcomber

Posted in Travel Writing by Jayne Henshall on 22nd Jul 2022

After a very comfortable flight on the new Air Mauritius airbus, I was met and transferred straight to the Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa for the start of my 5 days stay on the magical island of Mauritius to understand and experience the various Beachcomber Resort & Spa hotels dotted around this beautiful island.

After a very swift check in I was very excited to learn that we were going to take a catamaran to the Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury Hotel. What a fabulous way to arrive for lunch at this luxurious hotel, we felt like celebrities arriving on the beautiful sandy beach at the Royal Palm Beachcomber for a delicious lunch of fresh grilled prawns and fish. After lunch, we were taken for a walk around this ‘ultimate luxury’ hotel which exudes a quiet, relaxed timeless elegance. Before returning to our hotel, we called in to see Le Cannonier Beachcomber property. This 4-star hotel is positioned on a historical peninsular, offering fabulous views over the Indian Ocean, beautiful beaches, and mature gardens just perfect for a family holiday.

I loved my time at the Victoria and was particularly impressed by the newly opened and very chic Victoria for 2, with its swim-up rooms and dedicated restaurant ideal for a romantic stay. Our next port of call was the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, which is situated on a fabulous sandy beach. We arrived in time for lunch at the new La Plage Beach restaurant, which was a real foot-in-the-sand experience. Afterward, we were shown around the hotel, which considering it is a large hotel offers so much space. Perfect for families with children of all ages, a fabulous kids club, teen hangout, and water sports, and it’s all included in the price. Afterward, we were shown to our rooms, and I was so excited to see I had been given a Beachfront luxury suite with my own pool!  After a very quick dip, it was time for a sundowner cruise, sipping champagne whilst watching the sunset on the horizon before dining at the hotel’s Indian restaurant Mahiya which was incredible.

A scuba-diving experience was the following morning's activity and being a complete novice, I have to say I was feeling a little apprehensive. I need not have worried as the team was fantastic and guided me safely through the whole process, in no time at all I was diving in the reef looking at the fantastic marine life. Our island exploring continued, and we moved on for 2 nights to the Dinarobin Beachcomber Resort & Spa where I enjoyed the most incredible sea urchin risotto! After an adventurous morning hiking the Seven Cascades waterfalls it was then back to the hotel to clean up before heading off for some more hotel familiarisation.

With the backdrop of the iconic Le Morne mountain, both Paradis and Dinarobin are luxury hotels in a superb position with amazing facilities including a stunning golf course and beautiful coastline. I would say Paradis is perfect for a luxury family holiday whilst the tranquillity and calm of Dinarobin is the ideal retreat for couples.

The unforgettable experiences kept on arriving and one morning I had the absolute pleasure of taking a Mauritian cookery lesson. It was such fun learning how to make an authentic Mauritian curry which was delicious and is something I have now cooked a few times since returning home.

Our final stop was at the Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa. This hotel offers something for everyone including 3 beaches, a fantastic array of water sports, and a good choice of restaurants. Another thing to note is that Beachcomber hotels feature impressive spa experiences, and it was here that I was lucky enough to indulge in a spot of pampering with one of their signature relaxation massages. Our last evening was spent enjoying a touch of wine tasting in the hotel's wine cellar before sampling the impressive Thai cuisine at the hotel's wonderful Teak Elephant restaurant.

As they say, all good things must come to an end and my visit to this stunning island was over and it was time to return to reality. My overriding memory apart from the endless amount of incredible food consumed was the warm hospitality, stunning locations, and superb experiences that could be enjoyed at a Beachcomber Hotel & Resort.
