Time to Discover the Algarve

Posted in Travel Writing, Algarve by Jan Locke on 5th Jul 2016

The Algarve is the perfect holiday destination appealing to beach lovers, families, couples and golfers. With only a short flight time you can soon be enjoying the mouth-watering cuisine, the excellent wine, hitting the beach or refining your golf swing. There is a wealth of hotel, villa and apartment accommodation to choose from and here at Prestbury Worldwide Resorts we will ensure we find the right holiday to suit you.

Here’s a taster of why we love Portugal so much…

Sun, Sea and Sand

You can't beat it, with its Mediterranean climate and 300 days of sunshine a year, it's the perfect year round destination. There's over 100 miles of glorious beaches, secluded coves, warm seas, gently waters and a wealth of water sports, there really is a beach for everyone!

Top Tip: Head down to the beaches near Sagres and try your hand at some wind-surfing and body boarding.

Indulge in the Food & Wine

Portuguese cuisine is quite simply divine. Must try dishes include Piri Piri Chicken, freshly caught fish and seafood as well as a Cataplana. For those with a sweet tooth, the Portuguese custard tarts are an absolute must. Be it the local Vinho Verde or a chilled glass of white, there’s a wine to go with everything.

Top Tip: Enjoy a lazy, sun-soaked afternoon with a bottle of Rose and some freshly grilled prawns…heavenly.

Things to do, places to go

The Algarve is popular with both keen and amateur golfers, ager to make the most of the moderate climate and experience the numerous award-winning courses and fairways. Beyond the golf courses lies a country of contrasting landscapes and rugged beauty full of ancient monuments, castles and picture post card villages.

Top Tip: Hire a car and head to the hills. The mountain village of Monchique is beautiful and a great place to stop for some lunch.

Getting there

There are so many reasons to discover the Algarve and a huge plus is the short flight-time. In less than 3 hours you could be sat by the pool, relaxing in the sunshine and enjoying a cold beer with the UK seeming like a distant memory. There’s a vast choice of airlines that fly to Faro throughout the week so getting there is never an issue.

Top Tip: The Algarve is a perfect choice for a short break. Ideal if you’re in need of some sunshine and fancy a long weekend away.
