Use the drop-down menu below to explore Lanzarote.

The Canary Islands have been blessed with superb year round climates and a distinctive natural beauty visible in each of the islands striking landscapes. Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands only 79 miles off the North African coast measuring 37 miles long and 12 miles wide.

Neighbouring islands include La Graciosa and Fuerteventura which can be easily reached by island-hopping on a local ferry or relaxing on a Catamaran cruise sailing across the blue seas of the Atlantic.

To the locals Lanzarote is known as the island of 100 volcanoes and it all began back in 1730 with one of the World’s most long-lived volcanic eruptions lasting a devastating six years.

Before tourism became the islands main source of economy, Lanzarote despite its volcanic landscape predominately earned its income through agriculture and exporting fish. The islanders have a real passion for making you feel welcome and are keen for visitors to experience the natural beauty of the country and gain a true understanding of their heritage.

Other "must see" attractions include the much loved Jameos del Agua is possibly the most visited sight on the island. Its magical volcanic ‘grotto-like’ lagoon as well as its fantastic restaurant and bar were formed by the natural flow of the lava and then cleverly enhanced by local artist Cesar Manrique to provide a stunning and unique setting that is nowadays enjoyed by many.

Arrecife has a great choice of shops and the weekly local market is popular with many flocking to the colourful and vibrant Sunday market of Costa Teguise, bursting with life and packed with keen shoppers in search of a bargain.

Although there is so much to explore on the island and despite its volcanic nature there are surprisingly many sandy beaches and a plentiful array of water-sports. With the island enjoying a mid-Atlantic location, Lanzarote is a perfect and popular haven for windsurfing, diving, surfing, and fishing.

Lanzarote is an exciting destination that offers so much more than just sunshine and good beaches, it is a place to be discovered, explored, and enjoyed.

Lanzarote enjoys a mild, dry climate with average daytime temperatures ranging from 21°C in January to 29°C in August and a very low annual rainfall of approximately 110mm. These mild year round climatic conditions make Lanzarote a popular travel destination both in the summer and winter months.

The island of Lanzarote is served by one airport (Lanzarote Arrecife Airport) which is located between the island’s capital Arrecife and the resort of Puerto del Carmen. Regular flights, on various airlines, including low cost options, are available from most areas of the UK.
