Italy is a rich and fascinating country in so many ways, renowned for its cuisine, wonderful vistas, culture and historical sights.  From the beautiful coastlines of Amalfi and Portofino to the rolling hills and villages of Tuscany combined with the historic architectural cities of Venice, Rome and Florence, whether you are a family looking for the perfect beach holiday or a couple searching for a romantic break, holidays in Italy are there to be indulged and enjoyed.

For the romantic traveller the city of Venice is a must.  Famed for its palaces, basilicas, grand squares, and gondolas which glide around its delightful waterways, Venice has a legendary history that is simply unparalleled.

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most splendidly beautiful and historically significant areas in Italy.  The rugged coastline, sunny brilliance and high mountain towns of the Amalfi area as well as its proximity to Naples and the major archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum have made the area a favourite with tourists, artists, and writers.

In the northern Italian region of Liguria East of Genoa sits the sophisticated town of Portofino.  Known as the resort of the rich and famous there is much more to see here than just people. Portofino is a picturesque, half-moon shaped seaside village with pastel houses, shops, restaurants, cafes, and luxury hotels line the shore of the harbour. The crystalline green waters reveal a myriad display of aquatic life.

Bordering the Mediterranean Sea, Tuscany is one of the most beautiful and well-known Italian holiday destinations. The cities and towns of Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Florence and Siena are famed for their Renaissance art and architecture, and the delightful rolling countryside boasts olive groves and vineyards.

Off the southern tip of Italy is Sicily the largest island in the Mediterranean and boasts a unique and fascinating past.  Mount Etna forms a stunning backdrop to the eastern coast  where the most rewarding collection of cities and towns are to be found, amongst them, Messina, Catania, Siracusa and Taormina.

The climate of Italy is highly diverse, and could be far from the stereotypical Mediterranean climate. Most of Italy has hot, dry summers, with July being the hottest month of the year. Winters are cold and damp in the North, and milder in the South. Conditions on peninsular coastal areas can be very different from the interior’s higher ground and valleys, particularly during the winter months when the higher altitudes tend to be cold, wet, and often snowy. The Alps have a mountain climate, with cool summers and very cold winters.

The planning for weddings in Italy can start with the romance of the Romeo and Juliet story and cuminate in a family get-together in stunning surroundings. Honeymooners can soak up the atmosphere of cities like Venice, Rome or Florence, spending time strolling through the piazzas or hanging out in street-side cafes eating gelati and sipping a cappuccino (remember - according to Italian coffee culture you should only drink milky coffees in the morning and never after a meal!).

Italy is served by a number of airports.  Regular flights, on various airlines, including scheduled and low cost options, available from most regions of the UK.

Tourist taxes are payable in many areas of Italy. The amounts vary between region and hotel star rating, and are payable by customers locally on departure from the hotel. Tourist taxes are generally up to €5 per person per night (often with reductions for children). Our reservations team can advise current hotel taxes.
