As the saying goes ‘a place is only as good as the people in it’ and no truer words can be said of Harold’s Bar at The Sandpiper, Barbados.
Harold’s Bar is a beachfront haven where people flock to from all over the island, to take in the stunning location and enjoy the cool breezes that float across the Caribbean Sea. However, it’s the legendary Harold himself that people mostly return for (oh, and one of his delicious cocktails of course!).
30 years ago when Harold’s Bar was but a pipedream, Harold took upon the idea of selling beer to guests on the beach, loading up mobile cooler boxes topped with a makeshift countertop each morning where ‘every day I’d run out of beer’.
It was a further 8 years before this entrepreneurial spirit led to the beginnings of his cabana style bar and Harold’s famous cocktails crept onto the menu. As a staunch Liverpool F.C. fan, guests can enjoy aptly named cocktails including ‘you’ll never walk alone’.
Today, Harold’s Bar has been renovated to become a stylish venue, where residents and visitors can enjoy lunch on the umbrella-topped patio that extends over the beach. Whether you’re a regular visitor to The Sandpiper or a first timer, rest assured Harold never forgets a face and your favourite cocktail will be with you no sooner than you can say ‘mojito’.
Harold's 'Strickly' Bajan Cocktail
Ingredients:
■■ 1 ¼ oz. Dark Rum
■■ 1 ¼ oz. White Rum
■■ 1 oz. Malibu
■■ 2 oz Bajan Cherry Juice
■■ 2 oz. Orange Juice
■■ 2 oz. Pineapple Juice
Method:
Combine all ingredients with ice and shake well. Pour into a tall cocktail glass filled with ice. Garnish with an orange wheel and Melon Ball.
